Midnight is a privacy-focused blockchain developed as a sidechain to the Cardano ecosystem, aiming to bring rational privacy to Web3 by using zero-knowledge proofs and a Typescript-inspired smart contract language called Compact. It allows developers to create decentralized applications with selective data disclosure, balancing transparency and privacy for users and enterprises. The project is developed by Shielded Technologies, an engineering spin-out from Input Output (IOG), the company behind Cardano’s founder Charles Hoskinson. Midnight focuses on programmable privacy smart contracts and compliance-friendly architecture.

💸 Token NIGHT and why is it valuable

NIGHT is the native token of the Midnight Network, serving as the core asset in its ecosystem. It has a dual-token model with NIGHT as the main asset and DUST as a metered resource for paying transaction fees and smart contract execution. NIGHT tokens are necessary for interacting with the Midnight blockchain’s privacy features and smart contracts. The token’s value is derived from its essential role in enabling private transactions and selective disclosure of data, as well as its planned utility across multiple chains and its involvement in controlling access and incentives on the network. The full 24 billion NIGHT token supply is being distributed via airdrops, with no venture capital allocations to ensure fair community ownership.

✅ How to claim your free NIGHT token?

1. Verify eligibility: Hold at least $100 worth of native tokens in one of the supported blockchains at the snapshot date (June 11, 2025).
2. Use a self-custody wallet (non-custodial; not on centralized exchanges) with CIP-30 support to prove ownership.
3. Visit the official claim portal and start a new claim.
4. Choose your origin address (one of your wallets holding eligible tokens).
5. Enter an unused Cardano address (destination address) to receive the NIGHT tokens.
6. Sign a message via your eligible wallet to prove control of the origin wallet.
7. Submit the claim.
8. Claim period is from August 5, 2025, to October 4, 2025.
9. After claiming, tokens will gradually unlock after Midnight mainnet launch following a defined schedule to prevent dumping.
